Friend Merrily is heading for Burma. Whee! I have no idea where it is or what is there, but I suspect I'm about to learn...But, now that I think of it, one of Dad's students was from Burma, and he and his wife were dinner guests on several occasions. And, my friend I-forget-her-name was from Burma, so I guess I should know something. But I don't! SO - here we go, we're off to Burma!
To start this new adventure, let's find a map...
SOURCE: http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/asia/mm.htmI had a feeling I knew more about Poland than I thought, and I was right. My current Coursera course is on Internet History. Week One talks about the beginnings of the computer age, and traces it back to the WWII work of Alan Turing at Bletchley Park deciphering the German Enigma codes. This is an example of learning by connecting new knowledge to what one already knows...
Friend Mary and her husband are traveling to Poland - Wow! I wonder what that's like? As always, when friends travel, we can travel too. SO, let's see what Poland has to offer. First off, let's head for Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poland. Good heavens - this site yields 30 pages, printed at 70%. Well, I've printed it, and will look it over. Meanwhile, I did find it's location:
To get a better idea of just where Poland is in relation to all of Europe, check out this map from WorldAtlas.com - http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/eu.htm. Here we can see that Poland is north and east of where Jan and Judy traveled on their Passage to Eastern Europe. See, our world is expanding already!
